Hi there
My name is Thomas, and this text offers a glimpse into my photographic journey and philosophy.
My Photographic Journey:
… goes back to my youth at school and projects in the darkroom, yet without a dedicated starting point. I am still on it, and fortunately, an end is not in sight. The path has been shaped by twists and turns, obstacles, dead ends, highs and lows – while plenty of fun and joy that clearly outweigh occasional disappointments. In short, it can be described as exploratory.
Over time, I have attended several photography courses, which proved every time stimulating and refuelled my interest, although I experienced various inactive phases. I enjoyed in particular applying and practicing shared theory and both learning with different instructors and groups. At the end of 2024, a photography vacation marked a breakthrough: since then, I have been active on a regular basis (thank you, Bernd!).
Although I have an affinity for structure, I am curious and eager to discover new things. Among others, I have discovered landscape photography and increasingly learned how to stage it effectively. I aim to broaden myself further and continue to enjoy this wonderful hobby.
As main tool, I now use a Nikon Z7 II, which succeeded my APS-C format Nikon D90. As I further develop my skills, I hope to continue exploiting more of the full potential of my equipment. Digital photo development and optimisation have joined my journey as well. Here too, I am steadily expanding my knowledge through a mix of learning sessions and experimentation.
My Photographic Philosophy:
A subject holds many perspectives and stories – shaped by the photographer. For me, photography is a means of seeing the world with more open eyes. The challenge is to translate what I see – three-dimensionally and with the capabilities of the human brain – into a two-dimensional format with its technical limitations, while still showing and expressing what I see: my perspective and my story. I am convinced that a good photograph depends primarily on one’s “eye” and the ability to stage a subject effectively. Camera and lenses are tools that support taking a photo. However, excellent technical equipment on its own does not create a good photograph.
